Wilson Combat Shok-Buff Recoil Kit – Government 1911

The Wilson Combat Shok-Buff is a drop-in recoil buffer designed to cushion the slide-to-frame impact in Government model 1911 pistols. By absorbing shock at the end of the slide's rearward travel, the Shok-Buff reduces wear on the frame and helps extend the service life of high-round-count guns. This kit is particularly useful for shooters running hot loads or practicing frequently, as it mitigates battering without altering the pistol's cycling or timing.

Each Shok-Buff is made from a proprietary polyurethane compound that compresses on impact and returns to shape after each shot. Installation is simple: the buffer fits over the recoil spring guide rod and seats against the recoil spring plug. The Shok-Buff will gradually wear with use and should be replaced when it shows visible compression or deformation—typically every few thousand rounds depending on ammunition and shooting intensity.
