The Nielsen device (also called a booster or linear inertial decoupler) allows the barrel to recoil freely during the firing cycle, ensuring reliable cycling when a suppressor is attached. Without a booster, the added weight of a suppressor on a tilting-barrel pistol can prevent the action from cycling properly.
